you should be getting some soon. I have 151 on one quad, 77 on another, 33 on a few others, but one dual has nothing, and on single core has only two wus. They will come.

remember, that regardless of your cache, you'll only get 100/core per day so it takes roughly 3 days to be able to fill a 6 day cache.

Mine are taking 30 minutes on the quad, hour and 15 minutes on the laptop, and hour and a half on the pentium d.

According to BOINC manager mine are 1:05 - 1:57 long on a C2Q at 2.6GHz. I Reduce the OC because of the heat.

I haven't been crunching for the past few days because I've been busy with a lot of encoding. But, I do have a cache.

According to the "Calm Chaos overall boincstats" chart, we've move up two spots(14th to 12th) displacing WCG and CPDN, and we'll be displacing Spinhenge in a couple days, and most likely will be displacing Yoyo by the time we're out of work. That'll put Simap in 10th place.

The last group of work is at 29.8% and so, I guess they'll run out of work to send very shortly.

It's been a nice run so far.

I was hoping to hit 100k at simap on this run, with pending and what I have left I think I`ll miss it by only a couple of hundred credits. Maybe next month :smt001

During this month's run we've displaced CPDN, WCG, Spinhenge, and today Yoyo to put Simap in 10th spot on the CC all stats signature. There's little chance of another gain until next month.

News from the front page:
Project status
Calculation of SIMAP updates is starting soon.
The calculation of new simap workunits containing the novel proteins from june 2008 (simap app) and their domains (hmmer app) will start on july 1st in the evening (UTC).
It is my hope to have enough work to push Simap to the number ONE position on my stats by TC during this run. I hope they have enough work.

Okay.

I have just joined Calm Chaos over at SIMAP for this month's release.

Any strategy? I m running it on a C2D laptop. I take it I should set its time share high to maximize the work I get, while leaving another project on a lower share running to keep the CPU hot while waiting...

Anything else I should know before they start?

Simap wus appear VERY stable. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a Computation error or other error. The servers are swamped the first 3 or so hours so getting work is hit or miss at the beginning. I usually set my cache very low (like .04 days) prior to the start of getting work, that way I don't have to much of some other project to do after they start giving out work, but enough not to let my chips go cold before the load on their servers lessens and work is steadily available. By the time I get home from work this evening, they should already be distributing work, and I should have some on most/all machines. I'll then set the other projects to NNW/NNT and let them run dry. After setting NNW on all other projects, I'll bump up my cache to 3 days worth. If you go for to many to fast, you'll invoke the dreaded "running high priority" status, and that means it won't fetch new work until it burns off some of you cache.

They haven't released the amount of work they have available, so I haven't established a strategy as to when to bump up the cache, or when to switch OSes on my dual boot machines and load up the other OS.

I'll find all that out tonite.

Sounds like release time will be while I am asleep. Hmmm. I'll have to think of a strategy then.

I usually try to maintain between 8 - 10 hours work on my laptop for the night because the wireless signal doesn't work to well from one end of the unit to the other and I am uncomfortable leaving my laptop out in the lounge when our unit mate has a habit of not locking all the doors. So just before I go to sleep I try to stock up on enough work to keep it busy while I take it easy...

Gavin, I saw in another thread you're running Simap because I asked for help on the project. I really don't have a team based goal set for this months Simap work(I'm sure I could make one up though. LOL), but do have a personal goal to push Simap to my highest project by TC. two months ago I was trying to get Simap over 100K for CC and asked for help then. I just didn't want you running a project based upon a request from me that doesn't exist. It's nice that you are willing to.

Yeah. I noticed the request last time, but was committed else where. And I couldn't bother going back to look it up (to see if it was still valid).

Doesn't matter. I'll still run SIMAP (if it will give me any) and see what happens. If there is a team goal all the better.

Anyway it will take a long time for SIMAP to be my top project. I want to get Seti to 1 million, ABC to 100K, Rosetta and MilkyWay to 50K and Spinhenge to 20K.

But I'm happy to branch out to others if they are interesting.

Good luck with your goal...

EDIT: How about the team trying for 500K?

SIMAP has released work!

So far about 30mins into a unit and about 44% complete. I have also been limited to 20 units...

Eeek, they only have 130K sequences (don't know how that translates into WU's but it's generally less). So, Set your caches to max and let her ride. Tomorrow morning, I'll be filling the alter ego's caches on my dual boot machines. I have NO expectations that work will be available 24 hours from now.

good luck everyone.

tony

after looking at the Batchmonitor, it appears they only have 83K wus available. get them while they last (which won't be long).

Well I can't seem to get any more at this moment. Hmmmm. Too many connections? Or are they out of work already?

Looks like I was lucky to get those first 20 units then...

I see they are changing things yet again in an effort to cut down on the initial rush for work. I haven't got the EXACT details yet, but it seems they are playing with the quota. They've initially set it to 10 per core. Seems they plan to increase this every so often throughout the day. I haven't seen any time time. I just know If I don't get enough to avoid running dry, I'll be changing my view of the project. 10 wus at 40 min is only 400 minutes (6 hours+) work. They best up it before then.

I get 20 WU's at just over an hour for each on a C2D, so that's about 10 - 11 hours work for me. I have set my cache to 5 days. I guess I'll have to wait and see how much I do get...

And that is it.

The SIMAP homepage says that there is no work left to distribute...

I only got 40 units.

Well, once the ones I have now are done, its back to the other projects...

Well, They've ticked me off. My top 3 producers went cold overnight. My wifes laptop was COLD for over 12 hours while I was at work. I informed them I wouldn't be participating in August, but I might cool down by September, if they get this straightened out. They are spoon feeding wus in an effort to lessen the server load AND more evenly distribute work to more participants. That removes any need for a leaderboard, and thereby any reason to do the extra work needed to maximize my contribution.

I'm done for now. I'm tempted to Abort all remaining wus, but that's laborious. I could just detach, and leave them stranded until the deadline.. or I'll just let them run dry.

From front page;

The calculation of new simap workunits containing the novel proteins and environmental sequences from july 2008 (simap app) and their domains (hmmer app) will start on august 4th in the evening (UTC).

A few days later than normal. The amount of wu`s you can get has also been raised from 20 per cpu/day (last month) to 30 in progress. I presume this meens it will work like Milkyway :smt017

This is a few hours late but, SIMAP has released for August so get in quick if you wish to get some work from them.

Currently the batchmonitor progress is at 3.1% (for SIMAP apps).

I managed to get 60 units this morning in Aus. I think they have a 30 units per CPU/core limit.

For those interested....

Simap will have ALOT of work available one week ahead of time and in fact, that work distribution begins today, the same day the Primegrid challenge ends.
August 23, 2008
New Workunits: One week earlier than expected we could prepare the new workunits for the 2 million environmental sequences from the preprocessing batches. The calculation of these workunits will therefore already start in the evening (UTC) of august 24th. Additional workunits have been prepared for the calculation of similarities and features of the 400.000 new sequences, that were imported from the databases PDB, GenBank, ENSEMBL and Uniprot in august 2008.

How long are the deadlines on SIMAP? I'm going out of town tomorrow and don't leave my machines on when I'm gone. Are the deadlines long enough for me to fill up but not start crunching them until maybe Thursday?
