News from Milkyway@Home:
We're trying to get the 2nd project set up for the GPUs, and it looks like there was some misunderstanding or miscommunication with labstaff in doing it. Hopefully things should be back up shortly.

I get 404 for the website and a HTTP file not found when trying to report back work.

So they are still down...

Still having trouble getting work when Boinc requests it. Can still take multiple tries. So we don't need the Europeans to wake up to cause trouble.

Usually the best way to get work is to manually hit the update every so often...

I don't think it matters with their button pushing scrips if they are awake or asleep.

Still flowing for me, maybe it has something to do with cache size. I seem to have less problem with 0.5 days set than I do with 1 or 2 days but I'm only running 3 wu's at a time so there is a small pause between callups to the server. It even waits until most of the cache is crunched to acknowledge them instead of one at a time.

Update:

MilkyWay may be on its way to coming back online.

I have been able to upload my work, but can not report it or get new work (attach shared memory error). And the homepage is up but only holds a MySQL error message...

Same here. Have reported my units but can not get any more. Probably happening with everyone and the server can not keep up. Especially with the ATI GPU app and those machines hitting up the server every few seconds/minutes...

30 Mar 2009 AEST:

I'm working on getting work generation working again, for some reason the last crash is causing the assimilator to not run. Hopefully we'll have it figured out tonight.

It looks like the assimilator is working again, so work should be available shortly.

From Travis:
Just a heads up on our situation. We should be meeting with labstaff this week to set up the milkyway_gpu project (it'll be at http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_gpu and perhaps milkyway_gpu.cs.rpi.edu).

Once that's up and running I should have a preliminary application and code out there for people to use with it shortly after.

News you can use...
Possible Downtime
April 8, 2009
There might be some downtime this afternoon as we should be meeting with labstaff to get the MilkywayGPU@Home project up and running. I'll also be posting CPU code for the GPU application this afternoon so the people who have made the GPU application for the ATI cards can get their hands on it and modify it so it works with ATI cards. We should have the CUDA code out sometime this week.
Guess it's time to order that 4870.

12 Apr 2009 AEST:

So I've been working on making the new project specifically for GPUs. This is will alleviate the no work situation because we will be giving much longer workunits to GPU clients. However, I've discovered a bug in a python script that was made when compiling. I need labstaff to give me permission to overwrite the file, but am not sure they work on weekends. So hopefully by early next week we can have a new project up!

From Dave
Flaming

In the past few weeks, the flaming on the boards has been intense. I will ask you all to please cease fighting with eachother. Anyone who I see flaming in the future will get a permanent ban from the boards. Also, if you are reporting someone who isn't flaming in spite, you will also get a ban. Thank you for you cooperation.

Glad I haven't been following it.
At least he's honest. He's stated clearly permanent bans are a possibility. Gee. Who was it that said permanent bans would never happen on their[/b] BOINC forum?

Unfortunately I was one of the few that got threatened with a permaban even though I hadn't been flaming anyone and haven't had a single post modded. (I checked with those I had seen flaming and they had not been threatened with a permaban)

It seems to me that someone was making malicious complaints about me. I have my suspicions (I am sure we all know who is behind it).

I think it has been cleared up now, but I am still very upset about it. I am glad he is going to take strong action against those that have been making complaints against people out of spite.

One can hope Debs. Considering all the flames aimed and insults over there aimed at me that I have ignored I am not so sure.

When they failed to get at me that way they took their fight behind the scenes.

How about they get their project going again? For the past how many weeks I have struggled to get work their. And they keep saying we are splitting the project but still haven't seen anything.

Sometimes it takes many goes from Boinc to get any work at all...

There is progress Gavin. A few days ago this link showed just a parent directory. Then over the weekend it showed more folders, this morning it showed a couple more, and now, a forbidden permissions page.

I see progress, except I'm not sure if Travis has posted the source code for Cluster and Gipsel to convert to ATI yet.

I haven't bought a new handbag for nearly 8 months. So it will have to be shoes.

I don't think I'll be donating to any Boinc projects again. I've learnt my lesson well.

Saw you changed your name at MW Esme. It's just too bad that "you know who" can't leave you alone.

MW is down right now, maybe project separation is at hand...
