Docking @ Home Project

Post by Astro » Tue Sep 02, 2008 8:04 pm

If any of you have been waiting to get into Docking. Here's your chance. This was posted there today.
September 02, 2008 16:06:00 UTC
Tomorrow September 03, Docking@Home will be open 24hrs for creation of new accounts, starting at 14:00 UTC
I founded the "calm chaos" team there so my credit wouldn't go to waste, and will be transferring it to the admin here, upon their arrival and request. Docking showed up today in our team signature.

OK Astro.

I created the account at Docking. Should I just send a change founder request?

And there.

If only open for 24 hrs. anybody wanting to get there, should do so soon.

Even if not wanting to crunch there now, might want to think about still getting an account. I have been looking and waiting for well over a year to get on there. So who knows when the next open registration will be.

Thanks Astro for the info. :smt023

The following Team members have created accounts there.

name TC RAC
1) Astro 1056 90.6
2) Daniel 445 43.29
3) Sam Leonard 37 3.57
4) Buga1 32 3.13
5) Bird-Dog 29 2.88
6) Knightmare [Founder] 0 0

Best not wait to long to create an account. Although, I suspect it won't be quite as long this next time until account creation is resumed, but you never can tell. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Evidently, any who missed this last 24 hour window are in luck. Trilice from Docking said "We are moving to Beta on Monday, I can send you the invitation code anyway, but the project will be open to everybody very soon. Right now we are testing that we are able to serve a bigger number of users, and solving some new issues." In response to Slavko.sk on their boards.

I just ordered a couple more Quads (AMD 9950 BE, Asus M3A78-T, etc) and should be able to spread the wealth of distributed computing to these other projects. At least part of the time.

Due to some issues with the storage resources we are stopping the generation of new work for 24 hours. The other daemons keep running and jobs will be validated and credit granted in the meantime. Thank you.

Docking@Home is a project which uses Internet-connected computers to perform scientific calculations that aid in the creation of new and improved medicines. The project aims to help cure diseases such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Thanks for the notices Gavin- and this is all I needed to know to sign up. Well, this and the length of the WUs :smt023

The only question I have is which one?

We have Rosetta, WCG, SIMAP, Docking, GPUGrid, Malaria, Poem? and others, all doing medical research. Are they all doing something different? Or is there an overlap?

And total runtime of the unit?

And Snow my previous question. I knew you were referring to Docking, maybe I wasn't clear. But with all these projects (medical ones at that) I am wondering if there is some kind of overlap where the is two or more projects kind of doing the same thing, thus splitting the resources available...

I personally don't know - I just noted the description on the Dockin@home page and that was enough for me. Considering that while sustaining treatments are now available- there's no cure for human error. So, imo, it shouldn't matter how many projects are process data. Even if the data is similar, it's all vital to finding a cure.

total run time on first 3 units was approximately 7 hours each. Three more to go + 1 each from 5 other projects.

I can't remember if I've said it yet and too tired to check- this is another project that Pilot likes. :smt023

Go to your account page on docking@home (http://docking.cis.udel.edu/community/s ... serid=7850).
Click on "View" next to "Computers", which will open the page relating to what computers you have.
Under "Computer ID", click "Tasks" for the computer you want to view.

This will now show tasks you have recently completed (it variefrom project to projecthow long the tasks stay there), and it will show how long they took and what points you got for them.

Let me know if you don't want the above link to show publcily, I can remove it...
