My latest Climate Prediction WU-

It was a decenlty good sized unit- I conceived the thought and hope that this could be the one that breaks through 10,000 for this projects. Tonight when I updated about 5pm on 12/31 I was seeing that it came up short by just under 200. And there was an average showing of about 3 to 4 days left on the time. As of this posting I am more confident in my original thought:
I just updated the project.

It is now sitting at 9982.43 work done.
The timer reads 37:30:00. hours remaining
The Progress is at 88.623 %

I'm thinking it's going to make 10,000 creds

Anyone willing to help at SIMAP with a one or two day hard push? Right now there are 4 members active. They seem to have a steady flow of workunits.

Great. Yeah I've been checking the stats page there off and on. Well done on the 100k mark. I might make it to 5k before they're out of work again.

28 Feb 2010 From BoincStats:

Team challenges @ BOINCstats is now released. Challenges can now be issued and joined by all teams. The challenge pages are open for all users.

If you are a team founder you will find a new menu item in your "Team founder" menu: "Challenges". With it you can issue challenges or join challenges issued by other teams.

On the challenge chat pages team members can chat directly with each other about the challenges. Bragging is allowed!

Of course there are detailed statistics and charts to follow the challenges and monitor your teams' standings.

See all challenges on boincstats.com/bam/challenges.php

I don't know if anyone else has received the following email:
------------------------
Dear SETI@home user:

We are conducting a survey of SETI@home users
in order better understand why people participate in volunteer computing
and contribute computer resources.
We would be extremely grateful if you could help us
by filling out a questionnaire.
If you are not interested, ignore the rest of this email.

The survey is at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/survey/
It should take no more than 10-15 minutes.
Your responses will be used for research purposes and to improve BOINC.
We will be happy to share our findings with you, and they will be made
available once we complete the data collection and analysis.

With many thanks -

Dr. David P. Anderson
Director, SETI@home and BOINC
University of California, Berkeley
email: davea at ssl.berkeley.edu

Prof. Oded Nov
Polytechnic Institute of New York University
email: onov at poly.edu
------------------------

So I went to do the survey and on the first page they ask for your email address (the one you use with you Boinc account) and your password...

You can not go any further with the survey without giving them your password. So why the hell do they need your password. They can get your credit totals other ways. This would give them access to your Boinc account(s).

WTF???

That's why I stopped at page 1 and then posted here for the rest of the team.

There is no way I give out my passwords to anyone. Except maybe Lin...

Interesting. I hadn't received it, so I looked in my junk mail folder. There it was getting all dirty with the Viagra ads, and penis enlargement stuff.

It appears to be genuine, but now I don't trust it either. :smt017

EDIT: I started it to see what you were saying. Right off the bat the question comes up....

Given that it ask for your password...

Well that's enough for me to refuse to participate in it all. And I would advise everyone else not to. You are giving them your password. Something you have always been told not to do.

I strongly suggest any crunchers who receive this email to ignore it and not participate.

they don't give an option for 'other'?

Just the fact that they are asking for our passwords is a major red flag for me.

29 Apr 2010:

Due to a bug in .43/.44, the currently stable BOINC client has been rolled back to 6.10.18. The bug in question only affects volunteers using GPUs that do not have enough GPU RAM to execute their desired project applications. This bug is fixed in 6.10.46 or newer.

my BOINC test worked! with consideration to Pilot's system specs I decided to run a processing test on BOINC. The problem she was having before was that Cosmology kept stalling with the message 'waiting for memory'. After letting her finish with the last cluster of WUs from Freehal and Poem, I switched her over to Cosmology. So, for the last few days she's only been crunching Cosmology. Knock on wood, there've been no issues so far; except when connecting to Facebook.

Just uploaded two WUs tonight; 5 remaining in this cluster. :smt023

Ive also read there is a memory leak in these versions too. From 6.10.18 thru 6.10.53. I have watch it and seen it myself in a .45 version and a .3x version on another machine. This is not supposed to happen in the .18 version. and a new .54 version. Not sure if its out yet. Should have been in the last few days I think. But I havent had much time to read and test more as of late. Just checked and .54 is out.

Just an FYI on what Ive read.

Howdy Team.

I have finally gone through and cleaned up the sub-forums for BOINC Projects. All current projects, that I know of, have been added. Moved retired projects.

There is still some cleaning up here and there, and I haven't made the first posts in some of them yet. But the mods or I will soon.

These projects have been updated on the team stats pages and the Toolbar (for the few that use it).

Will get more done soon. :o)
