Yes, big den/gameroom. Already got permission for a wet bar and a big screen and a pool or Foosball table. Probably a pool table that converts to a beer pong, I mean ping pong table. That and one of the rooms is my computer room/ aquarium room. That one is bugging me, it's at least 10-15 degrees warmer than the rest of the house because of the GPU's and the quad pumping out heat.

I just need to get another monitor to match this one. Got the stand already. lol If the car wouldn't have takin' a dump everywhere Might have had it by now. But I do use the tv as a second one for now.

Sorry about not getting the Newsletter out on time. I will get it done tonight. Has been a couple crazy weeks.
Last weekend 23rd, was the wife and my 20-10 anniversary. This past weekend was my Birthday. Along with several Band functions. And more of those to come. October is always hectic. LOL.

Re: General Ongoing Chat.
So a few weeks ago I upgraded my computer case to this case. I got a smoking deal from a friend who was upgrading his case.
Turned out really nice, lots of space.

The memory seemed lonely so I ordered the same kit I already have to double it to 8gb (I got it significantly cheaper than that link), and the cooling is better in this case than my old one, so I was able to solidify my overclock at 3.2ghz with no issues at all anymore.
Now I am itching to upgrade video cards to get more speed, but I can't afford to jump series yet (was going to upgrade to the HD5850, but tax season was a little rough this year) so I am bidding on a new HD4870 to complete the trio. I already run a HD4850 and a HD4830. So upgrading means I will drop out the HD4830, unless I put it in a different machine, but that's more money I don't have.
So I've been following a thread at SETI (yes I still go there), this thread and it got me thinking about the strange adapters. My case is big enough that I can run all three cards, and I have the power supply that can handle it. So I ordered one of the adapters, this one and I will put the lower end 4830 in there and see how it goes. My only difficulty will be finding a good mounting solution.
Any ideas?

Re: General Ongoing Chat.
I've gone and done something ya'll might want to know about. I was over at the spaceport (my other forum community) and noticed their BOINC progress thread. Welllll.... I noticed their totals as well and I couldn't help myself- I suggested a friendly team challenge between them and us.
Now I'm not going to "say" anything about their numbers- my thoughts are that maybe if there was a friendly competing team it might help to push up their numbers- and perhaps their projects as well.

My one quad puts out roughly 20x their team total avg credit, what exactly is the challenge going to be?

Pilot does better than them- the challenge is to inspire them to get crunching.

Ya know. That might not be a bad idea, Snow.
We could figure out what our averages are (like Dan said...his one quad does 20x what their team does) take a look at their averges and perhaps set specific goals for each team to reach in a set amount of time.
There wouldn't actually be 'head to head' competition.
Like Snow said, it may inspire them to crunch a little more or get involved in more projects.
Good thinking, Snow.

Thanks KM, just trying to inspire them. After all, they were my online home before we met. It's hard to believe how much time has passed since the Port's creation.
With what their team is capable of, I don't know because I don't know what they have or how much / how frequently they crunch. 5 out of 23 are crunching.

Told them about FreeHal, no comments on it yet. Although, one member did ask how many members we have crunching- had to check BOINC stats for this.

Yeah. I have absolutely no idea how many people we have active right now. Buga was always better at keeping up with that than I was.
Then again, Buga is better at keeping track of stuff in general than I am. LOL

I relied on BOINC stats for that information. Number of active members 31 out of 183.
Should I team them this? Team position in Country stats 32 out of 39,849

Re: General Ongoing Chat.
Hmmm.
We would need to check our current position and how far away from the next position AND how long it would take us to get there.
I can't check BOINC Stats on my phone, so if someone wouuld be kind enough to check our position and theirs...along with how many they currently hve crunching...maybe let me know their daily averages....we may be able to put our heads together and come up with a reasonable challenge for them.

Looks good. I wonder how often they gain position in the 'In Country' standings.MzSnowleopard wrote:The Spaceport Team List of individual stats

I'm not sure what our end of the challenge would be...but what about a 30 day thing with a set goal (for them) to reach a specific number in the 'In Country' standings?

Re: General Ongoing Chat.
OK guys and gals. I figured I would make a post.
A month ago or so Tim and I changed some things for the team. I had it in my mind that I was gonna get some things added to the site. I went in thinking I knew what I wanted done. But it didn't work as I had planned. I worked on it for a few weeks but it was giving me nothing but problems. I have a few thoughts and will get back to it soon and hopefully finish it. But the time has come for my 3 week sabbatical for band. I wanted to get this stuff done before I got taken over by band stuff, but it just wasn't happening. So over the next 2 1/2 weeks I will be busy cutting down 20 hours of video to 5 and going through roughly 3000 pics to make 2 Band DVD's.
Once that is done though I will be back in here trying to get some things done. Starting back up the POTm and LTP etc. Again sorry for the slow responses.

Busy Busy Busy, since the Penitentiary Chapel has been taken over from the Tasmanian Government by the National Trust things are finally starting to happen, we are getting more people interested in us and the (poor) state of the building. Long way to go, but now we are open to more funding avenues. We need it, going to cost over 70k to fix the roof alone.

Good to hear that things are opening up for the pen though. It's never a bad thing when the government gets taken out of the equation.
Good to see you, my friend.

Re: General Ongoing Chat.
My life has been keeping me busy, especially with work.
I finished my time with the government (that was nearly a year ago) and ended up back at the university with a research role. Not only do I conduct/undertake research, but I have to do software development, manage two part time research assistants, often step in for the project leaders (one is the national president of Engineers Australia and thus travels a lot, networks, gives guest/key notes etc) and generally represent the project and keep things going and on schedule.
My personal life is also getting busy and demanding with things happening and that's not going to change in the near future. Can not tell you guys yet, but should be able to update you all in a couple of months. No need to worry it is all good. However, you may not see much of me for a while, but I will always try to keep up to date etc.

Wow. Impressive stuff. Well done, Gavin. I know we all appreciate the updates.
I know that I haven't been around much over the last year or so and I wish it could be otherwise.
I am probably not going to be around much for the next month or two. But I finally managed to find a job, so once I get established and get a place to live again, I'll be doing my best to get internet access so I can get back around here.
