Obama plans to sign stimulus measure Tuesday

WASHINGTON – Savoring his first big victory in Congress, President Barack Obama on Saturday celebrated the newly passed $787 billion economic stimulus bill as a "major milestone on our road to recovery. "

Officials said he would sign the measure on Tuesday in Denver.

Speaking in his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said, "I will sign this legislation into law shortly, and we'll begin making the immediate investments necessary to put people back to work doing the work America needs done."

At the same time, he cautioned, "This historic step won't be the end of what we do to turn our economy around, but rather the beginning. The problems that led us into this crisis are deep and widespread, and our response must be equal to the task."

This is the second large package in less than 1 year... and a band-aid at that. Wait for the > $1 T for the bank re-capitalisation programs (500B already).

This certainly won't be the last.

Why is he waiting to sign it? Just last week if Congress didn't pass a bill before Friday it was supposed to be an ecomonic catastrophe. So why didn't he sign it over the weekend? Just another lie about this so-called stimulus bill.

And he has also said that a bill would be online for 5 days before he signed it so we, the public, could see what he is about to sign into law. And this is just another broken campaign promise.

What was wrong with Saturday or Sunday? Congress passed it Friday.

If he's going to wait that long, then what was the emergency? If there is no emergency, then put it online and let us have the 5 days to look it over like he promised he would.
