Mark Slaughter has exceptional range vocally. I have a cd called Revolution that has a couple of songs on it that, if you didn't already know it was him, you would never even guess it.

Trust me, I know what I am talking about.

George Lynch on guitars is a good choice. I went with the two names that came off the top of my head, but I know there are many more that could easily be there.

* edit * OH!! And there is nothing wrong with Tom Keifer, either. * edit *

Tom Keifer is at least better than the guy for AC/DC.

Here's some fair to good/great artist or bands not yet listed ...

Hurricane
Goo Goo Dolls
Dream Theater
Yes
Foo Fighters
Metallica
Dokken
Journey
Joe Satriani
Oasis
Pink Floyd
Savatage
U2

... don't laugh at the next two ...

Winger
Warrant

...

Alice in Chains
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Lisa Loeb
Linkin Park

...

and that's barely getting into the last 10 yrs. ...

and it's most rock/metal ...

so what else besides those genres?

Out of everything mentioned so-far there`s only Oasis (Sarge II) I listen to. What about:-
The Who
Buddy Holly
Roy Orbison
Gene Pitney.
It seems, unfortunatly, most of my favourites are no longer with us.

The Beutiful South
The Cranberries

Nothing against anyone named by Bird Dog, just not my style...lol

I am on a big Power Metal kick right now.

I am digging on Stratovarius...DragonForce....and a few others.

One addition to my musicians list would have to be...

Drums....Dave Lombardo. He is just SO fast on the kit, it's mind blowing at times.

Stratovarius. Now that I like. Nigel Kennedy playing one doing Vivaldi`s Four Seasons. Somehow I`d don`t think thats the same Strad LOL, but it certainly tingles the hair on the back of your neck. Me anyway.

Definitely not the same one....lmao

I know the feeling though. I do like some of the classical music, as long as it has some power to it. Like Ride of the Valkyries....O Fortuna...stuff like that.

I listen to a wide variety of stuff. One of my ex g/f's told me that my music collection was too schizophrenic for her....lol

The above is kind of all mixed up with lots of genres

on the heavier side.... metal/alternatve/punk

Spiderbait (Aussie)
RATM
Green Day

If ya want some wicked guitar solos and riffs, try checking out Stratovarius....Dragonforce....and a few other Power Metal bands that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Iced Earth is an excellent band as well.

Sounds cool, thanks for the tip!

A few months back i went on a guitar solo/riff 'binge' using frostwire (its like bittorrent) and found some **very cool** MP3's of guitar solos from Steve vai, Yngvie Malmstein (how to spell) also a few done by Eddie Van Halen.... pretty cool stuff!!

I now have a "Guitar Solo" compilation on my IPOD....

Angra
Leave's Eyes
Nightvision
Sinergy
Sonata Artica
Symphony X
Therion
Zonata
Tierra Santa
Dragonland
Falconer
Kalmah
Orkrist
Persuader
Vanden Plas

Yeah... well i enjoy finding new stuff that i like to listen too. It just doesn't come along THAT often....

Sometimes when i find a 'new' band with something i like i use tools like frostwire to download a few more tracks to see if i really like them. If good then i buy the album.

Do you collect music??

I have roughly 8000 songs stashed on my hard drive. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about clearing some of them out on my next day off.

There are a few bands that I will go and pick up their cd even if I can get it via Soulseek or a program like that, but I do have a tendancy to download a lot of stuff. Mostly bands that aren't readily availabe around here. I don't have a credit card, so Amazon doesn't work for me. Besides...I am kinda cheap...lol

Two notes for anyone who may be interested.

Rush has a new cd called Snakes and Arrows coming out on May 1st.

Ozzy Osbourne has a new cd due out soon titled Black Rain. Not sure on the release date of that one. Zakk Wylde wrote the songs for the new disk, so Ozzy is sure to be rocking on this cd.

Though I listen to a lot of music, and I have all kinds of music on my desktop (20GB on mp3!, my cassettes and LPs are yet to be transformed to mp3files), I prefer to listen to some other music at the moment:

Cocteau Twins
Dead Can Dance
This Mortal Coil
The Hope Blister
Persephone
Portishead
Massive Attack
L'Ame Immortelle
Lacrimosa
Siouxsie And The Banshees
Qntal
Abney Park

But note: My music taste changes every hour if not even more frequently. Maybe it's now Tiersen's Amélie Soundtrack, in half an hour Slipknot, then Обійми Дощу and in the evening Muse. But I'm always desperatly seeking for new Bands. Thx for your recommendations.

This is my very favourite early Beatles song. The lyrics are nice but the melody is beautiful.

Enjoy.

And of course, what would a metal list be without
Slayer
Let's see here....I like

Slayer....Arch Enemy...Shadows Fall...and In Flames.

I have seen them all live with the exception of Slayer ( which I am planning on remedying the next time they play Harpo's in Detroit ).

The rest of them I have heard, but could go either way one them.

All in all...a prety good list BSR. :smt023

You could have stopped at Pink Flloyd,

What no one has heard of Black Sabbath I would think that they would rule in the world of "NIGHTMARE"

I started loading my music into my new computer this morning and realized that out of 450 CDs the newest one is more than 5 years old and only represent Classic Rock, Metal, Acid Rock, Southern Rock and a compillation of about 50 CDs of Classical.. What does that say about me? Outdated? Out of touch?
My music ranges from AC/DC to ZZ Topp and everything in between
Favorite group ; Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Lynard Skynnard

Guitar: Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen
Jimmy Paige
Drums: John Bonnam rules
Vocals: Robert Plant has the greatest male vocal range on the planet
I cannot even start to list all of my favorites, I carry a Toshiba 6 Gig MP3 player with about 6,000 songs set to random play whenever I leave the house and every one of them is on my favorites play list....I guess my choices of mostly deceased individuals pretty much dates me but I am a child of the 60's and will always be an "Old Hippy" I love my Harley and Fast Cars. I want to feel my music and be able to understand the lyrics. Todays music does nothing for me and the only reason I have a radio in my vehicles is to interface with my player...So all you youngsters Rock on, life is too short to have to be subjected to what others want you to hear. Do it your way and enjoy...Oh yeah, did I mention Bob Seegar?

Top Two Songs Ever:
Stairway to Heaven.........Turn The Page

Guitar: Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen
Meh....Stevie was exceptionally good. Never was a fan of Jimi Hendrix. I never could find the " genius " in his music.

Eddie was pretty innovative.
Drums: John Bonnam rules
I have to go with Dave Lombardo and Neil Peart.

Geddy Lee or Billy Sheehan on bass.

Robert Plant's voice just irritates me...lol Gimme Ozzy any day.

And yeah....Black Sabbath is always a good choice. Kinda goes without saying....lol

Steven....you said that you like to " feel your music and understand the lyrics ". Might I suggest a band called Ra?? Well written songs that actually have some meaning behind them.
