Red shared this with me months ago. I think it is incredible, non-conventional playing.

"Birthright":

In 1954 the British Government, in order to maintain the balance of power between East and West, exploded their first atom bomb at Woomera. They failed to contact all of the Aborigine peoples at the time. The Aborigines still call this 'the day of the cloud.'
A new born land
Dreaming by the sky
The scent of colours
In the flowers

Believe it's small
In many ways
It holds the key
That divides the super powers

This road is never lonely
To ENGLAND they are tied
They were blasted by the Silver Cloud
There were blasted to the wall alive

This place, this place ain't big enough for stars and stripes

Counting out the statesmen
Bungling one by one
Spelling out this segregation
So the catchword be
Looking after number one
They release the fear inside
Are human after all
So begins our dream time
They hunted like the dinosaur
We the pure
They the savage innocent
How we crush our existence after all
Come on

For without them
We are lonely
This England we are blind
Like all the Empires crumble
Will surely change the tide

This place ain't big enough for red and white
This place ain't big enough for stars and stripes

This place - This place
This place is theirs, by their birthright
This place

The sun gives better reasons
United we are blind
To deliver our existence
Keep it up
Keep it up
This human tide, give it some

We can break the ties
Of recent changes
Know the ones who
Hold the key
Singing out the congregation
We are them and they are we

This place ain't big enough for red and white
This place ain't big enough for stars and stripes.

Cohen is probably Canada’s best poet of the last half century. (IMHO, of course).

I don't consider them heavy metal... as I can listen to them- hear the lyrics... and understand their music.

I don't consider Night Ranger heavy metal either, they have too much musical ability for that. :smt038

Snow...it would seem that your idea of " metal " is kinda vague. 99% of the bands I listen to have clear vocals and easily understood lyrics....but I would be willing to bet that you would still consider them " metal ".

When I think of heavy metal bands I think Judas Priest and Mötley Crüe. I admit I can't understand their music- all I comprehend are the drums and the guitars... the rest is garbled and jumbled. To me the vocals sound like some on just screaming noise into a mic.

Groups like Def Leppard and Night Ranger I get, I hear the music clearly and can understand the lyrics.

Thanks for the link DA.

Motley Crue and Judas Priest are two of the bands that I was referring to. They both have easily understood lyrics.

Methinks you should go listen to Judas Priest's album British Steel...you'll find it exceptionally easy to understand Rob Halford's vocals. No screaming involved.

Motley I can kinda understand because of the pitch of Vince's voice. He has always been kinda high pitched, so I can see how his vocals would get a little lost. Besides....it's not like Nikki Sixx is a great lyrics writer in the first place...so you really aren't missing a whole lot...lol

As far as Def Leppard...I don't think you actually heard any of their albums before Hysteria. Joe Elliot was definitely among the " screaming vocal " types on their first three albums.

This gets a “most disappointing video ever” nomination.

I heard (and loved) the song first, then saw the video months later: my mental image did not match at all. :(

Once again, embedding disabled, sorry.
