AUS- It's raining... fish

Post by MzSnowleopard » Mon Mar 15, 2010 5:15 am

WHILE the Top End and Central Australia have been battered by torrential rains, a Territory town has had fish falling from the sky.

The freak phenomena happened not once, but twice, on Thursday and Friday afternoon about 6pm at Lajamanu, about 550km southwest of Katherine.

Hmm, one idea was that this might have been done by a tornado.

I have trouble with that one because the comments made. They mentioned that the fish would freeze in the air. And yet the one witness states: 'the fish were alive when they hit the ground.'

This tells me the fish were still moving when they landed.

The freezing would depend on how long they were up in the air and how high they actually got.

A few thousand feet above the ground isn't nearly as cold as it would be at say 50,000 feet.

One thing that sticks out, though, is that the fish HAD to have been " picked up " a pretty short time before they were dropped. They wouldn't survive very long, no more than 20 minutes or so, after having been taken out of the water.

Then birds? Here's a similar story but this time it was Japan.
