Spacecraft blasts off in search of 'Earths'

Post by MzSnowleopard » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:30 pm

(CNN) -- NASA launched its Kepler spacecraft just before 11 p.m. Friday in a mission that the agency says may fundamentally change humanity's view of itself.

The Kepler spacecraft blasted into space on top of a Delta II rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The telescope will search our corner of the Milky Way galaxy for Earth-like planets.

"This is a historical mission. It's not just a science mission," NASA Associate Administrator Ed Weiler said during a prelaunch news conference.

I was thinking BSG. And I did go work. And now I am going to do more work, again, for perhaps 3.5 hours, then I will do some personal work at home if my brain's up to it by then.

I was about to respond with, "No cat since Lilly died in 1990 or so," but then I realized the proper response is supposed to be, "Boom, boom, boom."

:smt017

I'm not sure where you're coming from- I was referencing a few repeated lines between Starbuck and Adml Adama...

Can't remember his initial question- but her response is

"Nothing but the rain sir."

he say something- and bring the cat in.

and she'd resond with 'aye sir'

Hearing the whoosh of a brilliantly ambiguous reference to an anomalous television program rush past our heads. :smt017 from both directions.

As per IMDB:

Near the start of the mini-series / movie.

Adama: Morning, Starbuck, what do you hear?
Starbuck: Nothin' but the rain.
Adama: Grab your gun and bring the cat in.
Starbuck: Aye-aye, sir.

Actually it was in a corridor while she was doing her morning jog and Adama was on his way to the CIC / Bridge and reading his speech...

Actually Gavin- those lines appear several times in the series including in the hangar bay. it's one of those things used to show a connection between starbuck and adama.

I'm thinking of the two part movie that started it. The first time was in the corridor. But I haven't seen all of the seasons (only the first two and a few episodes of the third). So I may have missed or not remembered others in the hanger bay at later dates...

I've seen every episode- and yeah, it's there. I remember the one you're talking about, I also remember the one in the hangar bay. Like I said- it's used several times throughout the series. It's one of those 'quirks' of the show.

if you haven't seen every episode- man you're in trouble :smt003 Just about every episode reveals a peace of the puzzle- and there's only 2 new ones left.

http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Nothing_but_the_rain
The greeting is generally consistent except for Thrace's last line, which is an acknowledgment ("Wilco" or "Aye-aye, sir!") that she tends to improvise. (Emphasis added.)

Adama: Starbuck, what do you hear?
Starbuck: Nothing but the rain.
Adama: Then grab your gun and bring in the cat.
Starbuck: Boom, boom, boom!
