Blaney wins the Pole!!!! Toyota wins its first Pole Position in Cup competition. Also the first Go Or Go Home driver to win a pole this season.
Kurt Busch will start 2nd, Reed Sorenson 3rd, and Johnny Sauter 4th. What the hell is going on in Loudon?
Vickers made it in on time, but was then disqualified in post qualifying inspection. And since he isn't in the Top 35 in points, he was sent packing. The left side of the car was too low. Chad Chaffin will now fill out the field in his first Cup start with BAM Racing.

I think it was stvenkng that first mentioned this on our forums, Tony Stewart's charity event from Eldora Speedway. If you weren't able to see it on Pay-Per-View, it will be rebroadcast July 8th on SPEED.
Tony's Prelude To The Dream is coming to the SPEED Channel.

That would be fun, but he still has to get past a lot of people he's pissed off so far this year. It's a lot easier to take someone out on an oval. LOL
But Burton had to best average speed in both practices this morning, could this be the end of his slide?

I'm not real thrilled with him (Jeff Burton) either, but you gotta love listening to Ward!!!

Pretty close week between us all last race (except that Busch getting spun on the last lap killed me). On ESPN we were separated by only 9 points.
Only two more races during TNT's run of commercials (YEA!!). We'll be lucky to see any racing this week during TNT's "Wide Open Coverage". No commercial breaks, just lots of graphics and split screens. I guess it can't be any worse than their Sonoma coverage.
This week is SuperSpeedway Saturday Night. Daytona. The Firecracker 400 (yeah, I'm old school
).
Last race of the segment for FoxSports, CBS and Yahoo.
Yahoo locks team selections in the wee hours of Friday morning, FoxSports locks at 4 pm EDT Friday.
Martin is racing, Said is attempting, and Petty is announcing.

Official Entry List
53 cars attempting the race. Said is on the list (Ford), as is Mike Wallace (Chevy), who always races well at Daytona (if he can just make the field).

If you're interested, here is the Caws n' Jaws detailed breakdown mentioned by Daly.
In it you will see that the longest the race was on in one block was 12 minutes, and the average was about 4 or 5 minutes. But there was one block that was only 1 minute long, preceded by 3 minutes of commercials an followed by 2.
If it weren't for the leagues I'd record and watch later, skipping thru the commercials. And even with the leagues, I do as much web surfing as watching the race.

Final reminder to set your picks for the Firecracker 400. Yahoo locks team selections in the wee hours Friday, FoxSports at 4PM EDT Friday. All other leagues lock Saturday afternoon just before race time (WIDE OPEN COVERAGE on TNT).
After the first practice, Yeley is fastest, followed by Biffle, Bowyer, Newman, and Kurt Busch. Mears, Harvick, Martin, Hamlin, and Marlin finish off the top 10.
Best average speeds are led by Bowyer, then Harvick, Yeley, Stewart and Truex. Kurt Busch, Edwards, Biffle, Newman, and Martin complete the top 10 in average speed.
Harvick quit about halfway thru the first practice, deciding it was getting too dicey and wanted to save his car. A "trick" he learned from Earnhardt Sr.
But then first practice means nothing at a plate race, it's all who you drafted with and how well you worked together. In fact, most practice means nothing at a plate race. With the "Big One" looming, it's almost always a crap shoot.
Should Stewart win, he will tie a record with David Pearson on winning consecutive Firecrackers with 3.
Gilliland could be a dark horse, as well as Truex.
Stewart and Kurt Busch had the best cars in February, but wrecked each other. Harvick won with Martin a close second.
Gordon is always a threat, as is Junior and J. J. Boris Said shocked everyone when he sat on the pole last July, he might be able to do it again, although he was slow in the first practice.
Second practice starts in about 30 minutes (from this post time) on SPEED.
Qualifying is 4 PM EDT Friday on SPEED.

Well, now that I've broken free from the trash compactor in the SETI Team Recruitment thread that TL locked me in (thank goodness you guys don't take out the trash very often), it's time for your weekly reminder.
This week we're going to the Windy City, Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois. Sometimes home to Jake Blues.
CBS, Yahoo, and FoxSports completed their first segment last week, Congrats to KM for winning the segment on CBS, to Buga for squeaking out a win on Yahoo (by just 5 points dude), and to me for winning the league in FoxSports. Of course KM and Buga showed up late, so as a Calm Chaos victory, it's a little lame.
But NOT as lame as my "wonderful" picks on FoxSports turned out to be. Thanks to Tony for taking himself out, causing Junior's mishap too, and also Thanks to Juan for taking out Harvick. My 4 drivers were Jeff Gordon, Stewart, Harvick and Junior. Should have had 4 in the top 10, ended up with a top 5 and 3 in the 30s. Aaarrrgggghhhh!!!!
YOU MUST pick 4 new drivers in Foxsports. The usage stats have been wiped clean and you're starting fresh. Don't forget KM. FoxSports locks at 4 PM EDT Friday.
Yahoo locks in the wee hours Friday for team selections. Nothing resets there except points.
Only points reset on CBS too. No salary reductions (except for Stewart, Harvick and Junior, see above); still a $1,000,000 salary cap.
ESPN continues on in its second segment, 8 races to go in it.

No Cup race this weekend, Busch is running in St. Louis Saturday. That gives ABC/ESPN one more Busch race to get their act together and another week before they debut Cup coverage. Lord help us if they decide to continue what they've been doing.
A couple of articles of interest.
Smith to replace Marlin at Ginn; Nemechek released
Labonte to sub for Waltrip in No. 55 at Indianapolis
The second story means Bill Elliott has to qualify on time at Indy as Labonte is a more recent Champion than Bill is.

And if you were participating in the "When Will Steve Wallace Crash" lottery for St. Louis last weekend, the correct answer was lap 5.

KM, I'm still hearing that Kyle Busch will be in the 8 next year, although there has been some rumors flying around that Martin will take it over (just to complete the rhyme 2, 4, 6, 8, who do we appreciate). Ginn really wants Busch and the DEI merger may accomplish that.
For this weekend, qualifying is Saturday morning at 10 am EDT, so that's when Foxsorts locks. Yahoo will lock early Saturday morning for team selection, as always, active driver selections within your team will remain open until race morning.
I've noticed that SPEED is not claiming to cover practice on Friday, but neither is ESPN. However, SPEED has scheduled to extra lllooonnnggg versions of "NASCAR Live" during the scheduled practices. ESPN2 is carrying qualifying Saturday morning.

So how did everyone like ESPN coverage at Indy? IMO, it sucked. After Tony said "bullshit" on the air, ESPN didn't want anything more to do with him. You should check out the Daly Planet to see his opinion. Read the comments, some of them are great.
We go back to Pocono this week, where Gordon won when the called it for rain with Newman halfway up his car. If they had thrown the caution 2 seconds later, Newman would have won.
Yahoo locks team selections in the wee hours Friday morning, FoxSports at 3:30 EDT. Qualifying is on ESPN2, no practices will be televised on Friday. Happy Hour is the only practice being telelvised at 11:00 EDT Saturday.
And one last thing for KM and Buga. You both only had 4 drivers in the ESPN Stock Car Challenge last week. You may want to take a look. Especially Buga, since you have Nemechek as one of your drivers and he ain't racing any more. But Buga, your other drivers did GREAT, you won the week there.

LOL... What ESPN covered a Nascar event. Must have missed it. I watched something, but it wasn't Nascar Coverage. LMAO. Missed things going on on the track, so they could give us either USELESS stuff, or stuff that my 7 year old knows. Going to go give the Planet a look see here soon. Always good stuff there.
Yeah need to go give it a look. Normally do on wednesdays. I did after that race, but forgot about the week off. Then never went and checked after that. LOL. DEI/Ginn merger.
I think Nascar is just wanting the money now. To many things starting to go south. Just got the PS2 version of Nascar 08. Sad,sad, sad. Took the money from EA and said do what you want. NOBODY should buy it. Should have rented it myself first. You can no longer buy your own team. Just contract offers. Once you get a liencse to race say Bush series you no longer can race Whelen. Lost my truck ride after another contract ran out, cant get another either. They no longer show name of driver your behind. Or number. So you have to Know what the back of a car looks like, and remember it. Ive read the PS3 version is better. But doubtful. Taking to many things away. Still the best so far, to me, was Thunder 04. Let you buy cars (4) Each set up for different tracks. Thats more relistic than 1 car for ALL tracks. Would love to see a Nascar team take a road course machine and race it at Dega. LMAO.
Side note PS3 version has the so called ESPN draft graphic thingy. Showing the draft in front of you to get the most of it. So they even stole that. ESPN. LMAO. Glad you all told me to go get another cable box. SPEED rules.
Sorry starting to rant. Should head over to the games section and rant there. EA sucks. They have now bought all the rights to NFL so nobody can make a football game.
Rick
Not a big "Smoke" fan. But loved the remark. Time delay a coming.
Which are the Best nascar shows on Speed. Need to get them DVR'd. What the name of the show with DeSpain w/ Drivers. I keep finding it at times but cant remember time or day. LOL Also gonna have to post a pic of my new Step-Dad. Almost looks like Dave. It kinda spooky.

I think the Despain show he is talking about is Inside Nextel Cup. It is on Mondays at 8/7 Central. Biffle has joined the driver crew on that one, along with Schrader and Mikey.
And don't forget RaceDay, SPEED's pre-race show. Although at 2 hours, it is a little long. Same cast and crew as Victory Lane.
NASCAR Live is on Fridays during the day (usually) and usually has good pre-race info.
