I wanted to get the results up quicker. But it has been the holidays. LOL

Anyway, this was PG's last Challenge of the year. We did well for such a small team. This last challenge's results:

I sure hope I didn't miss anyone. If I did, sorry. It was crazy going through 1815 people looking for just our team. LOL

We ended this challenge in 27 place giving us 6 points. Nice going team. Without those 6 points we would have fallen one more spot in the overall for the year. So great going. :smt023

Heres a full list of this years challenges.

We had a few bigger ones and a few smaller ones. The bigger ones were on the harder, cpu intensive, challenges. Not a whole lot of people show for those. But this last challenge was a whole new ball of wax with adding of cuda. I hope they get an ati app before have another challenge with gpu's. I think we got a little lucking having Sams cuda cards helping out.

Anyway, was a great year of challenges. I hope to see those that helped out in the 09 challenges show up for some of the 0 10 challenges. They don't have anything listed for them yet, but when they do I will let ya know.

Rick

February is a couple of days away which means it's time for the Tour de Primes. 2 is the first prime number...and the only even one. Therefore, we have declared February, the 2nd month, as prime month. We're offering a small competition in tribute to this unique prime number. There are no points to be gained or awards to be won...just a simple colored jersey (Yellow, Green, and Checkered) at the end of the month. No pressure or stress other than what you put on yourself. :) For more information, please see Tour de Primes 2010.

GIMPS has found another Fermat factor, a 49 digit factor to F14!!! What makes this unique and exciting is that it is the first factor for F14. It was found by Tapio Rajala of Finland. For more information on this discovery, see this mersenne forum thread. For more information about the factoring status of Fermat numbers, please see Wilfrid Keller's Prime factors of Fermat numbers site.

24 hours into the Challenge and Cupid and the tiger have been very successful in their hunt for primes - already snagging over 35 "Top 5000" primes. 48 hours remain so it's not too late to jump in the fray and see if you too can capture a prime. For more information, please see this forum thread.

I can only find 3 of us crunching in this Challenge so far. I might have missed someone though. But theres still time to get in and get a days worth done. They are cpu intensive wu's, but they are pretty short. Around 20 mins on the quad. Right now I am down a quad too. The PS went out and new one wont be here till wednesday.

So join in if you can, make sure to pick the correct app in your preferences at PG to get the right wu's for the challenge.

Less than 4 hours remain. The hunt has been very successful for Cupid and the Tiger. Just as PrimeGrid's validator is struggling to keep up with the Challenge, the Prime Pages' validator is struggling to keep up with the prime submissions. :D Over 75 "Top 5000" primes have been found so far!!!There's still time to join the hunt. The results are final. Cupid and the Tiger ravaged the primes - bringing in an unprecedented 110 "new" primes to the Prime Pages with over half of those making it into the Top 1000. Over 2M tasks (1M WU's) were completed resulting in over 23M cobblestones awarded...an astounding amount of work done for an LLR Challenge. Congratulations to SETI.USA as the top team and Mr. Hankey as the top individual.Thank you to everyone who participated!!! For more stats and information, please see this forum post.

A very productive month for the Tour de Primes. 309 "Top 5000" primes were discovered, easily surpassing last year's mark of 212. lennart SM5YMT of Sweden and the PrimeSearchTeam once again topped the leader boards winning his second yellow jersey in a row. He also picked up the green jersey for the first time. [SG]marodeur6 of Germany and team SETI.Germany takes home the checkered jersey. For more details about the tour and complete standings, please see this forum post.

Well its that time again. PrimeGrids March Challenge.

I didn't post much on the last challenge. Only had a couple people and we were not near the points rankings. One of the few we didn't make it into the points. Hoping for a better challenge this time around from the team.

From PG:

A 24 hour Challenge is being offered on PrimeGrid's Prime Sierpinski Project/Seventeen or Bust (Sieve) application.

To participate in the Challenge, please select only the PSP/SoB (Sieve) project in your PrimeGrid preferences section. The challenge will begin 15 March 2010 18:00 UTC and end 16 March 2010 18:00 UTC. Application builds are available for MacIntel, Linux 32 & 64 bit and Windows 32 & 64 bit. Note: 64 bit builds benefit from a 1.7X speed advantage over 32 bit...so 1.7X the credit. :)

Recommendation: The PSP/SoB (Sieve) application requires a one time download of a 10MB sieve file. Please consider running a few PSP/SoB (Sieve) WU's before the Challenge begins so your client will already have the sieve file. This way, bandwidth can be used to deliver WU's instead of the sieve file. :) Thank you!

So its gonna be a nice 24hour challenge on short easy PSP Sieve wu's. Hope to see you guys and gals there. If anyone has any questions about the challenge, let me know.

Rick

17 Mar 2010:

"Et tu, Brute?" Yes, even Brutus stopped by and took down a few k/n pairs. He and the rest of the "senators" did the dirty work of rounding up over 400 prime wannabe's and placing them forever in the realm of composites. While they won't make the same notoriety as Caesar did, they will still rest in peace. The results are final. Just over 1.01P was sieved in the 24 hours of the Challenge...an astounding amount of work done. Congratulations to SETI.USA as the top team and Shanky as the top individual.Thank you to everyone who participated!!! For more stats and information, please see this forum post.

Well, some short notice here. But its that time again for PG's Challenge. 2 days away.

Quote:
To participate in the Challenge, please select only the 321 Prime Search (LLR) project in your PrimeGrid preferences section. The challenge will begin 22 April 2010 18:00 UTC and end 30 April 2010 18:00 UTC. Application builds are available for Linux 32 bit, Windows 32 bit and MacIntel. These applications will be sent to 64 bit clients. As with all LLR application projects, there is no advantage of 64 bit over 32 bit.

So it is on there harder wu's. But I still hope to see some there. Alot more people have been joining in on the challenges as of late. So it is becoming more of a challenge to get into the points. So the more we can get to join in the better we can do.

Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, please post and ask.

Rick

22 APr 2010:

Turn the turbines into the wind and the solar panels towards the sun because in less than 13 hours, the Earth Day Challenge will begin. :) Come join us for an Earth Day (22 April) + 7 day Challenge on the 321 Prime Search (LLR) application. Even if you are not able to access "green" energy, check out the Earth Day discussion thread on other ways to offset your Challenge power consumption. For more information, please see this forum post.

26 Apr 2010:

Finally!!! A significant find during a Challenge. :) On 24 Apr 2010 11:40:07 UTC, PrimeGrid's 321 Prime Search found another Mega Prime:3*2 6090515-1The prime is 1,833,429 digits long and enters Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database ranked 17th overall. This is the second mega prime for the 3*2^n-1 form, and it is the third largest found mega-digit prime using LLR.The discovery was made by David Mumper (Mumps) of the United States using an AMD Quad-Core Opteron 2378 with 8 GB RAM running Linux. This computer took just over 15 hours 24 minutes to complete the primality test. David is a member of the SETI.USA team.Official announcement and decimal representation of the prime.
