We are now up to 6th place by RAC. Way to go and I think we can hit top 5 no problem!

My quad is currently ranked #16 and rising fast on the top hosts list. I think I can make #1 if I let it run long enough.

A little before or after your first post on this today, I received a few. I figure it was just a few because I cut back my cache to 3 days again and I've got a few long (for my laptop) Einstein WUs to finish up.

Go into the projects folder, into the Enigma folder, look for a file called app_info. Open that file if it exists and see if there is 5.17 and 5.19 info in there. The old optimized app was only 5.17. The new one has 5.17 and 5.19 to handle the new AWGLY or whatever wu's.

OK, that search was absolutely ridiculous.
I had to go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\www.enigmaathome.net
I would think I could just go to Program Files, BOINC, Projects, Enigma. Ridiculous.

Code:

Yup, that's the old version. That's why you are having issues with the new wu's.

Download these two files:

http://tjm.boo.pl/enigma/app/app_test_519.zip
http://tjm.boo.pl/enigma/app/exe.zip

Extract the app_test files and put them into the enigma folder, then extract the exe files. There will be a bunch of folders, choose the one that corresponds to your processor and copy the file from that folder into the enigma folder. Restart BOINC!

I started Pilot crunching Enigma on 15 August 2008

Already she has a total credit of 363

and the RAC is at 32.22

Like with SHA-1 she really seems to like this project.

They released a new version of the optimized app today. Instructions are the same as the older version, not sure what the difference is yet.

There are Enigma WUs in the cache, but right now all I've been crunching the past few days is Prime Grid. With the challenge, their WUs are running in high priority.

26 Feb 2009 AEST:

The project server will be shut down tomorrow (26th Feb) around 12:00pm GMT+1 for a quick database optimization, the downtime shouldn't last longer than 2 hours.

After seeing KM's comment above, I decided Enigma was better than PrimeGrid as a filler since MW (and SETI and Cosmo and Einstein) are all down. Poked around the forums a bit and found this thread regarding an optimized app.

I installed it and it does make a difference, at least the Core2 app anyway.

It's not as drastic as the MW or SETI opti apps are in improvement, but it is significant.

AND, it's a two step process, you have to download from both links, install the first one, then make a decision on which app you need from the second.

Enigma is down again, for at least the second time today.

I thought Daniel had already tracked down an Enigma opti app quite some time ago?

Looking at my Enigma folder, Daniel had tracked the stuff by August at the latest.

During this weekend the server will be taken down for O/S upgrade.
The old distro (Debian 4) will be replaced by Debian 5 amd64, since the older version has a limited support and probably slows down the hardware a bit.
It's hard to estimate how long the upgrade process will take, but I'd say that 8-12 hours minimum, because I have to do a complete backup first, so in the worst case I'll be able to rollback everything to the previous state.

Due to the large amount of spammers creating profiles with stupid ads, I had to enable server's built-in spam protection - right now it requires the user to have certain minimum of credits to create profile, I've set it to 100.

31 May 2010:

The server is down since yesterday due to very bad weather conditions and local flood.

Around 17:30 local time the water level was extremely high, no one ever has seen it higher or even close.
As a result there are random and unexpected power outages, so I'll keep the server down for a while to prevent database damage.
